The Mid-Atlantic Regional Emergency Transitions Initiative

The Family Support 360 Special Initiative: Emergency Transitions for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Their Families

The Inclusive Preparedness Center (IPC) has received federal funding from the Administration on Developmental Disabilities for the Family Support 360 Special Initiative: Emergency Transitions for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and their families.

IPC joined with Delaware and the District of Columbia to propose in-state and regional planning to develop an Emergency Transitions plan to be funded for actual implementation in subsequent years.

The regional planning effort of the special initiative has been joined by programs serving people with developmental disabilities in seven states and the District of Columbia.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Emergency Transitions Initiative (MA-RETI), includes programs in the District and the States of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and North Carolina.

IPC is working with each of the eight jurisdictions through either the existing Family Support 360 Centers, the University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD’s), or the Developmental Disabilities Councils in each of the jurisdictions.

MA-RETI’s eight-state consortium is a strong combination of State programs, that opens up new possibilities for disaster readiness planning for individuals with disabilities and their families. MA-RETI partners will develop both intra-state and interstate plans to support people with disabilities as they face emergency transitions because of evacuations or other effects of disasters.

The Inclusive Preparedness Center (IPC) was hosted its first MA-RETI Partners Meeting, with partners from each of the MA-RETI states, on February 25, from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m., at the Carlyle Suites Hotel in the District of Columbia.

Partners joined together to discuss coordination strategies needed to focus on families and individuals with developmental disabilities, and the organizations that provide services to them  The goal is to improve the preparedness of both the people served and the organizations that provide services. This also includes providing multiple online education options such HiSET Prep in cooperation with the Dream Career website.

In the pages of this website, we’ll pay attention to emergency kits and what you should always include for protecting yourself and your family, and especially your kids, from harm in times of severe natural disasters.
